Studies in the News

In the November 15, 2006 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, the results of a study shows "that you can still live healthy until age 85 if you live right," said Dr. Carl Lavie, medical director of preventive cardiology at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

People aged 85 and older are the fastest-growing age group in most industrialized countries and are among the largest consumers of health care resources. Therefore, helping these people remain healthy as they age is a major priority, the study authors said. Researchers G. Bureau and M. Martinoli from the University of Quebec a Trois-Rivieres, found that quercetin, an antioxidant found abundantly in apples, was one of two compounds that helped to reduce cellular death caused by oxidation and inflammation of neurons. Their study was presented at the recent Society of Neuroscience annual conference in Atlanta. Immunization
Are you faced with the difficult decision of weather or not to immunize your children?  When an immunization is given, the actual virus or disease is actually injected into the body.  This virus is dead so that it won't multiply and cause a threat, but the mere presence of the virus in the body stimulates the Immune System to create antibodies.  These antibodies stay in your blood for the rest of your life and when the real disease enters the body, the antibodies are already there to fight it right away.  So you see, even though an immunization was given, it is still the Immune System that actually protects the body.  Please keep in mind that Dr. Chen herself has said that immunizations are not necessary if the immune system is strong and fed with proper nutrition.  When the Immune System is fed proper nutrition, it can produce it's own antibodies quick enough to defeat the disease without the need for immunizations
